Every fall on Thai island of Phuket local Chinese community holds Vegetarian Festival. It is believed that in these days, down to earth "nine emperor gods," who grant the island of prosperity in the coming year. To encourage the inhabitants of heaven, the participants within 10 days of not eating meat, do not smoke, drink alcohol and do not have sex.
